With many writers a theme develops in their works that, over time, reveals color and definition previously unseen; not just a new perspective, but a new understanding. “lofeye” is a concept album and personal testament that Philadelphia rapper lojii (fka uhlife) has been piecing together over the last three years, giving only hints with 2015’s no ebola, 2016’s dutti, and 2017’s acclaimed collaborative album due rent with producer Swarvy on Portland-based imprint Fresh Selects.

In lojii’s own words, “lofeye is about working with limited resources and making the highest quality life out of what the f**k you got. It’s when you’re ‘lo-fi’ by circumstance (not just for aesthetic) but your aim is always higher. In essence, this is an LP about being rooted in the dirt you come from but reaching for the sky above you.”

While lyrically this sentiment is completely self-illustrated, lojii found a diverse cast of producers to fully realize the aesthetic variety necessary to tell this kind of story. Passing through sparse flavors of boom bap, house, electronica, grime, trap, and punk married with kinetic avant garde raps, lofeye is infused with lojii’s signature smokey style, thanks to the album’s producers thook, Sadhu Gold, Marc Rebillet, Repeated Measures, New Zealand’s HeapRize, and Soulection’s NiceGuyxVinny.

Over 14 tracks and 42 minutes, “lofeye” is both a testament to what hard work and clear vision can yield, and a personal exploration of artistry and versatility from a rapper trying to improve his quality of life. From gentle hooks to blunt intensity, accented by hazy skits and interludes, it is difficult to misunderstand lojii’s message.

Accompanying the album will be a limited edition collection of merchandise featuring original artwork by lojii. Proceeds from each item will benefit a designated organization working to lessen suffering throughout the world.

В конце прошлого года Dres из Black Sheep анонсировал два проекта группы с одинаковым названием "Tortured Soul", одним из них должен был стать микстейп, а следом выйти альбом. Что-то из этого в итоге вышло 10 августа, про второй релиз ничего не слышно.

Black Sheep принадлежит классический альбом "A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing" (1991). После выхода второго альбома "Non-Fiction" (1994) группа распалась и с тех пор официально не существует, что не мешает Dres выпускать музыку под известной маркой. Делал он это в 2006, в 2010 годах, делает и сейчас, его бывший напарник по дуэту Mista Lawnge не похоже, что сильно возражает. Black Sheep были известны своим своим фирменным джазовым стилем, новый релиз обещает возврат к нему.

Though there certified gold debut album, A Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing, was released over twenty-years ago; Black Sheep has undeniably etched out its on space in hip-hop’s consciousness. Dres & Mista Lawnge exploded onto the scene with “Flavor Of The Month,” “Strobelite Honey” and the chart topping single “The Choice Is Yours” (Revisited) which you still hear regularly thanks to its inclusion in a handful of TV commercials over the years.

Members of the legendary and influential Native Tongues Click (A Tribe Called, Quest, De La Soul, Queen Latifah, Jungle Brothers, Monie Love), Dres & Mista Lawnge disbanded the group due to creative differences after they released their sophomore album Non-Fiction; disappearing almost as quickly as they rose to prominence.

On the heels of Black Sheep’s breakup, Dres has appeared on a few choice De La Soul tracks (“Fanatic Of The B Word” & “En Focus”), a collaboration, “Back On The Scene” with Slaughterhouse where they interpolated “The Choice Is Yours” for their Slaughterhouse EP (2011) and guest appearances with Twista and Rhymefest; and outside of a few sporadic solo projects, Dres has been largely working behind the scenes in both music, television and film.

That all changes on 8-10-18, as Dres (now working solo) picks up the baton by releasing a new Black Sheep project entitled Tortured Soul. The jazzy aesthetic the group displayed in its heyday is once again at the forefront on “Soul,” "Higher” featuring Jarobi of A Tribe Called Quest and the heartfelt dedication “Peace Phife” where DJ Red Alert, Chi Ali and Sadat X join Dres to reminisce and spin yarns celebrating Phife’s life and legacy.

Nostrum Grocers is the new collaborative group between Milo and Elucid, releasing their debut self-titled album on Ruby Yacht. Conceptualizing the album in 2015, Elucid flew out from New York to Milwaukee, hanging out with Rory Ferreira, ignoble poet, as the two cooked, discussed life and conducted initial studio work. The first batch of recordings pulled from this meet-up were promising contributions, solidifying the future progression of the Nostrum Grocers project.

Two years would pass before Nostrum Grocers would step in the studio again, recording the bulk of their debut over a two day stretch at Brooklyn based Greenhouse Studios. This was in September of 2017, one month after Ferreira released the critically acclaimed album Who Told You To Think??!!?!?!?! and touring the world activated. In creating their debut, Nostrum Grocers leaned towards improvisations and instinct, penning the lyrics and capturing the music in moment to moment waves. The interval between penning the lyrics and the studio sessions holds a special place with Elucid and as he explains, "All of my lyrics were written during the last months of my wife's pregnancy and recorded a month after my son was born. There was such intense optimism, clarity and genuine excitement during this period for me/us that I hope it translates to the listener."

With the initial engineering side completed with Willie Green and Cedric Wilson at his Greenhouse Studios, the record was mixed by Elucid and mastered at the Cosmic Zoo by Daddy Kev. The entirety of the Nostrum Grocers debut was produced by Elucid and Ferreira, with artwork contributions from renowned painter Kennady Bob. Between their initial meet up and the release of Nostrum Grocers, Ferreira would become a father, relocate to Portland, Maine, create the record shop / creative space Soulfolks, and take flight with Who Told You To Think??!!?!?!?! and the latest Scallops Hotel album Sovereign Nose of (Y)our Arrogant Face. Elucid would also make rapid growth in various pockets of life during this three year stretch, also becoming a father, touring the east coast with Ferreira during February of 2017, expanding on the Billy Woods collaborative project Armand Hammer, and launching the solo albums Save Yourself, Valley of Grace, and Shit Don't Rhyme No More.

Nostrum Grocers' debut album is an accumulation of their respective paths as Black liberation technicians and gave the two an opportunity to explore a new world that deviates from the oppressive ones currently in place. For those looking to catch the group live, the Nostrum Grocers record release show goes down on August 19th at Elsewhere (Zone One) in Brooklyn, NY.

Rap music from the near and bleak future; or more aptly, from next week’s dystopia. Artería Verité is a concept album that ended up being more future-realist than conceptual.

While on tour two years ago, the newly formed AIR CREDITS— Chicago rapper ShowYouSuck and producer Steve Reidell of The Hood Internet— came by the Minneapolis studio of SIMS (Doomtree, Shredders) to collaborate for the first Air Credits album Broadcasted. Sims then took Air Credits on tour in support of his 2016 album More Than Ever, largely produced by Minneapolis artist ICETEP. Immediately following that tour, these four met up in the studio (first in Chicago, then later in Minneapolis) to create Artería Verité.

Sims and ShowYouSuck handle the raps, pulp-driven snapshots from the wasteland and its inhabitants, their means for survival, their need to commune, their arterial link to one another through underground channels of communique. ICETEP and Reidell handle the production, sweeping synths over a vascular pulsing of low frequencies creating a tension, like a machine seeing its own blood. The songs speak to our baser needs to find each other, especially when in the shit.

Не просто возвращение, а первый с 2005 года рэп-альбом Kev Brown, которого можно смело относить к лучшим в роде читающих продюсеров без всяких разделений на эпохи или мэйнстрим и андеграунд. После выхода "I Do What I Do" прошло 13 лет, всё это время филигранный сольник оставался единственным в карьере Kevin'а. Хотя без дела он не сидел: коллабо, продюсерские релизы и, конечно, биты в огромном количестве, но ничего, что превзошло бы "I Do What I Do". The DMV's own, Kev Brown has announced his first solo rap album since 2005. Hailing from Palmer Park in Landover, Maryland specifically, after a 13 year hiatus, the producer/MC has finally prepared the sophomore sequel to 2005's influential cult classic, "I Do What I Do.” Entitled, "Homework", KB and Redefinition Recs have partnered to release an LP the game has been missing for too long. Now 13 years is a long wait, but don't think Kev has been idle in obscurity. He has been involved with several collaborative projects, garnered tons of production credits and released over a half dozen beat tapes during that time frame. It is also important to note, that he was in no rush to drop another rap album and preferred to compose "Homework" organically and at his own pace, in the comforts of his own home; hence the title.

Though Brown is known as one of Hip Hop's elite producers from heavyweights like Diamond D, Pete Rock, Busta Rhymes, Peter Rosenberg, 9th Wonder and Jazzy Jeff, he is a man of many hats. If you happen to meet him in person, he may be seen rocking a low pulled bucket hat, but he has been known toggle between titles of producer, MC, recording/mixing engineer, A&R and executive producer to boast a few. You might even catch him harmonizing on the occasional background vocal when he's inspired. To Kev's fans from all over world, they don't see a man of multiple hats, but a king wearing a crown. Even the likes of BJ Armstrong from Chicago Bulls first 3-Peat fame has been spotted publicly showing Kev's music appreciation. Kev has inspired thousands of aspiring fans as well as his peers. His trademark sound has been emulated over the last decade by so many artists and his sonic impact is very evident even among his contemporaries.

It all started on the Akai MPC2000xl and the rest is history (It should be noted that Kev appeared in one of or possibly even the very first “beat making” videos ever posted on youtube way back in 05/06). Kev Brown's debut album was groundbreaking in so many areas that the recording itself and Kev is cemented as legendary. It would be no surprise that Hip Hop would ask for the next installment and he's nowhere near done leaving his mark. "Homework" is a seamless nonstop exhibition of KB's range.

Kev raps confidently and wisely throughout the album's 27 tracks. yrically it's personal, introspective, comedic, observatory and witty delivered in Kev's smooth baritone style. Vocals are equally complimented by instrumentals all produced by the man himself and fluidly morph into instrumental compositions too good to be considered interludes.

These days Kev produces on whatever he feels like. The album was composed using several different samplers and recording technologies, but the vibe is never compromised. Returning to his roots, this a very "Hip Hop" album. The drums are are hard, the recordings are unpolished, samples are obscure, manipulated and unrefined.

"Homework" is the perfect game plan for today's climate. And for those who haven't, do your homework on this man. You won't be disappointed.
