Flux звучит очень сочно и не смотря на статус EP, 8 треков в себе содержат столько идей и вариаций, что я бы пожелал всем EP быть на столько богатыми. Отличный пример живой хип-хоп музыки с той долей альтернативности, которая не позволит слушателю забыть о жанровой принадлежности группы. К сожалению, альбомы этого коллектива очень редки в интернете, за не имением лучшего предлагаю данный альбом в качестве WebRip.
You know that feeling you get when that one song comes on the radio and you start bobbin’ your head thinking, “Man, this is gonna be a good day”? That’s the feeling you get when you listen to Live City.
The fourth studio album from San Francisco-based band Felonious definitely reminds me why I love hip-hop. A blend of heart-pounding drums, proper guitar, electric keys and heavy bass lines set against their witty lyricism and ridiculous beat boxing, make members Soulati, Jon Monahan, KP, Illin Ills, d.wolf and Infinite a group to remember.
The twelve-track album takes your head, shoulders, knees and toes to a place they ain’t never been before. “Get it Str8” showcases the talents of each member and is one of the tightest cuts on the album. And just when you think you know what’s coming, Felonious--whose members also perform hip-hop theatre--takes it way back with tracks like “Misunderstood,” turning the original 60s Nina Simone hit into their own modern day declaration. Cutting and chopping the popular chorus and blending it with self-proclamation, the group flips the original on its side.
Although the album comes correct instrumentally, I’m sometimes left scratching my head trying to figure out what they're trying to say. Clever lines like, “We don’t fit the part, is it pissing you off? / If we ain’t bringing it hard, is it making you soft?” will only take you so far. Listening to their songs, it’s almost as if I’m stumbling my way through as I search for a theme and cohesiveness in their verses.
Don’t get it twisted, Felonious is definitely a group to have knocking in the car. But if you’re looking for deep lyricists, you might want to cop the instrumentals and keep it moving.

И снова "живой" хип-хоп. Очень редкая в интернете, но хорошая вещь от уникальной мульти-МС группы из Сан-Франциско. Сейчас это сикстет, но во времена альбома "Up To Something" участников было пятеро, четыре вокалиста, двое из которых совмещают вокальный жанр с игрой на инструментах. У Felonious есть даже читающий барабанщик Soulati. Группа предлагает широкую альтернативность (но это больше скажется на последующих альбомах) и разнообразие в рамках жанра хип-хоп музыки, возможно поэтому данный альбом получился довольно неровным, не в том смысле, что треки разнятся по качеству, просто они отличаются по звучанию и настроению, поэтому думаю, что разным слушателям понравятся разные песни с альбома. Ну а моим любимым треком у этой команды является "Lately", перед скачкой альбома предлагаю послушать его в живом исполнении, немного другая версия, нежели на альбоме, но всё равно хочу, чтобы вы это услышали. Кстати d.wolf (говорит в начале вставленного видео) - один из тех, кто разрушает стереотип о белых ЭмСи, очень здорово работает, в том числе и в живую. Ну и ещё я не назвал басиста Illin Ills, поющего клавишника KP, ещё одного чистого ЭмСи и битбоксера Infinite и гитариста Jon Monahan.
Felonious, San Francisco’s premiere live hip-hop music and theater collective, will be releasing their fourth full length album, Live City, on June 8th, 2010. On Live City, Felonious blends live band musicianship, beatbox acrobatics, emcee freestyles, and witty lyricism all with an elevated theatrical delivery, showing why they are one of the most diverse hip-hop acts around.
From Felonious' amazing beatbox a capella rap performances, to their ill live band sets and theatrical presentations, this troupe of MCs and musicians kill it every time they get on stage. As a live band Felonious' instrumentation features the pounding live drum beats of Soulati (Tommy Shepherd), the reggae, latin, funk, and jazz bass lines of Illin Ills (Dylan Mills), KP's (Keith Pinto) melodic vocals and keys, MC's d.wolf (Dan Wolf) and Infinite's (Carlos Aguirre) poetic and rapid-fire lyrics, and Jon Monahan’s virtuoso guitar playing. KP steps out from behind his keys to rock the mic, while Soulati is able to play the drums and rap at the same time. Spontaneous freestyles and two of the freshest beat boxers on the West Coast (Soulati and Infinite) make a Felonious live show untouchable. Theatrically Felonious is known for blending conventional theater scenes with the music, language and aesthetics of hip-hop.
Originally Felonious Punks, an a capella hip-hop duo founded in the 90’s by Soulati and d.wolf, the group morphed over time into a full band dropping punks from its name to simply be known as Felonious. Since then, Felonious has written and starred in a number of theatrical productions which have added a unique take on hip hop culture. Their first play Beatbox: A Raparetta, is a piece written and performed entirely in rap, accompanied by beatbox and a live DJ. The play went on to be featured in The Source hip hop magazine and has since been produced in San Francisco, Oakland, New York and Germany. Beatbox: A Raparetta was also recently published on paperback by the Theatre Communications Group in 2009 under the title Plays from the Boom Box Galaxy: Theater from the Hip-Hop Generation. Felonious' next hip hop theater production, Angry Black White Boy, was also a smash hit, running for 12 sold-out weeks in 2009 at the Intersection for the Arts in San Francisco and was named Top Ten Best Theater by both the SF Chronicle and Examiner.
For Live City, Felonious has recorded an album that recreates their captivating live performance. “Live City is the Felonious album we’ve always wanted to make," says MC d. wolf. "It captures Felonious in its rawest creative form and is enhanced through the process of capturing music and lyrics in some of the Bay Area’s sweetest sounding rooms. Felonious comes from the live aesthetic — the live city — a place where performance is equally as important as the studio. A place where the freestyle cipher holds court with the beatboxer. A place where the beat is pounded out by a live drummer and enhanced by keys, guitar and bass. A place where music has drama and is a real conversation between artist and audience.” From the story telling lyrics of waking up in a post-apocalyptic America on the song “Heat”, to the vocal beatbox samples and Spanish inflected guitar solo on “Get It STR8”, Live City showcases Felonious at the height of their creativity. Guitarist Jon Monahan adds, “Live City is a huge canvas on which we painted as accurately and creatively as we could the artistic experience of making hip-hop and soul music in the Bay Area.” Live City also features special guest appearances from some of the Bay Area's top musicians. “We couldn't have done this alone, which is why you hear Jazz Mafia, Kimiko, Cait La Dee, Aspect, and others doing their part on our album,” says Monahan.
With Felonious' latest theater production Stateless: A Hip Hop Vaudville, this group is once again pushing the envelope as they deliver a collage of live music, hip-hop performance, vaudeville shtick, video projection, magic tricks, Jewish- and African- American history and re-mixed folk songs starring Felonious members Dan Wolf, Tommy Shepherd and Keith Pinto and Brooklyn's One Ring Zero (Michael Hearst and Joshua Camp). In addition to their plays, Felonious has released 3 full length LPs including Fight For Light, The List, and Up To Something. Felonious has also shared the stage with such notable hip hop legends as The Roots, De La Soul, Big Daddy Kane, DJ Premier, Black Eyed Peas, Zion I, Living Legends, Radioactive, and Crown City Rockers.
In addition Felonious members have taught their brand of multi-disciplinary hip hop performance at every theater and alternative arts organizations in the Bay Area from San Jose State’s Dance Department to Berkeley Rep's School of Theater, Theatreworks, to Youth Speaks.

In April of 2011 Sadistik & Kristoff Krane began a three month tour that spanned nine countries. Quickly realizing their artistic chemistry, the two decided that they should create a album together. While en route to Amsterdam, Kristoff exposed Sadistik to the production work of live instrumentalist Graham O'Brien. He was immediately impressed by Graham's unique style and the two agreed that it was the perfect direction to take their project. After receiving Graham's stamp of approval, Sadistik and Kristoff Krane began the writing process while in a tour van in May of 2011. By the end of June they had written the entire album. They recorded the vocals over the course of three days at Sadistik's home in Seattle, WA. And so now we present to you, Prey For Paralysis, dropping 11/22/11 on Crushkill Recordings.

Grap Luva AKA The Younger Soul Brother is much more than "Pete Rock's brother" ... Grap is a veteran Hip-Hop Producer/MC who has been selectively releasing timeless songs for well over 15 years.
From his production work behind the boards featuring artists such as Method Man and J-Live, to his days as a member of respected rap group INI alongside Rob O; it's a fact that Grap can hold his own behind the boards and on the mic. Interestingly Grap has never released a solo project until now. This EP is a true testament to Grap's career, proving that whether it's contemporary tracks collaborating with the likes of Kev Brown, Damu The Fudgemunk and Joc Max, or older beats from his SP-1200 archives, work is indeed never done.

Serph, a solo project by a male Tokyoite, has never once performed live, opting to keep his identity wrapped in a veil of mystery. Этот, свой 7-й по счёту релиз NBN пытаются выпустить весь 2011 год, такими темпами 20-я годовщина может плавно перетечь в 21-ю. За дистрибуцию этого материала взялся лэйбл E1.

The video, directed by Jay Rodriguez & Rock Davis , was shot in Las Vegas and includes footage from the group's 2011 worldwide tour crossing four continents. Actress Lisa Raye makes a special appearance.
Уже второй месяц подряд приходиться говорить о том, что из всего прослушанного больше всего приглянулись альбомы альтернативных хип-хопу жанров. Прежде всего имею в виду, конечно, пластинку RJD2 и Aaron Livingston или группы Icebird. Замечательная работа во всех отношениях. Многим рецензировавшим этот альбом людям не понравилось сиплое пение Аарона, по мне так оно выгодно выделяет его из армии безликих и одноголосых Р-н-Бишных визгунов. Ну а RJD2, конечно, маэстро. Очень хороший альбом выпустила Goapele, она постаралась сделать что-то современное и в то же время душевное, на мой взгляд вышло это у неё на 4+. У Pete Philly на этот раз хип-хопа на альбоме оказалось совсем чуть чуть, но его "One" тоже заслуживает упоминания. И, конечно же, Dessa с живым инструменталом на своём альбоме ремиксов "Castor, The Twin".
Что же до хип-хопа, после плодотворного сентября наступил закономерный спад, по крайней мере в плане количества громких релизов, к таковым можно отнести альбомы PUTS, Nappy Roots, Jedi Mind Tricks, Freestyle Fellowship, Statik Selektah... Первые в целом не подвели, сделали как всегда качественно и креативно, но после прослушивания, всё же возникло ощущения неудовлетворения - ждал большего. Вторые, третие и четвёртые просто провалились, при чём глубоко и с треском. Альбомы на один раз, а для релиза Джедаев даже одного раза будет много. Statik Selektah очень долго готовил свой сольник, сказалось это в большей степени на количестве треков, нежели на их качестве, хотя плохого ничего про альбом сказать не могу. Тихо мирно вышел альбом Kno и очень серьёзного парня MarQ Spekt, этот релиз запомнился наиболее всего. Destruments удивили отважным хип-хопом на этот раз. Альбом Ugly Duckling вышел ещё в августе, то был японский релиз и т.к. тогда мы его не слушали, всё же будем считать, датой релиза британское 17 октября, и поэтому альбом тоже в нашем списке. И ещё одна работа, которую хотелось бы отметить, это пластинка воплощения чикагского андеграунда Infinito 2017, который не захотел видеть свой "Pause Record Not For Sensitive Ears" в свободной закачке на нашем блоге, но мы не злопамятные...

Наконец-то это свершилось, не прошло и года! Извините, трудно сдерживать негодование, когда такие альбомы так поздно рипают. Но всё хорошо, что хорошо кончается, а то я боялся, что про альбом совсем забыли и сам уже почти забыл. Ещё октябрьский релиз группы музыкантов, продюсеров из Окленда. Три очень талантливых парня, каждый из которых владеет несколькими инструментами (кроме разве что ударника Adam Willis), разумеется они не закрываются только на модерн джазе с элементами хип-хопа, делают очень разноплановую, живую музыку. Over a dozen talented MC's, genre blending beats and an overall refreshing sound that will cause listeners to reminisce about the good old days and look forward to what's next in HIP HOP. All these characteristics make up the foundation to Destruments new album "SURPASSING ALL OTHERS"
While people want to put a tag or a classification on any group or band, listeners have always had a hard time labeling Destruments because of the way they easily weave between jazz, funk, soul and HIP HOP. While past records have had extreme examples of this, "SURPASSING ALL OTHERS" is deeply rooted in HIP HOP and never strays away from the music that made Destruments fall in love with all other genres that influence their sound.
It's hard not to feel a heavy vibration come out the speaker with constant skull snaps and a diverse line up of MC's from coast to coast. From the East you have spitters like Killah Priest, Jise(Arsonists), Quite Nyce, Swave Sevah, IDE, Alucard, Nems, The Day Laborers, Has-Lo, CF and Respect the God. The left coast is repped by ceremonial masters like Othello, Ammbush and Tron 7 while Jermiside holds it down for the south and mid-west!
A consistent flow of energy is all around because this record has a natural balance of live instrumentation, sampling, inspired musicianship and creativity that is missing from most albums! The majority of music on "SURPASSING ALL OTHERS" is written produced and put together by Kelly Finnigan and Sean Willson but as all humble artists' do they were quick to bring in outside help from talented people like J2, Jared Brown, ISM and the head of Creative Juices Music IDE.
Here is an album that brings Destruments back to its roots which is HIP HOP and reminds people once again why a music once considered a fad has proven time and time again to set standards and trends in music and pop culture but also that Destrtuments is as versatile as any group out today and has surpassed any and all expectations!
