Zion I - Shadowboxing (2012)

"Shadowboxing" - девятый студийный альбом группы из Окленда, Калифорния, который Amp и Zumbi выпускают на своём Live Up Records. Zion I четвёртый год придерживаются графика - по одному альбому в год. Помимо Amp Live в продакшене альбома поучаствовали Bassnectar, DexBeats, TimeLine, Traxamillion, Zumbi также был сопродюсером одного из треков. 2 октября.

Hip-Hop group Zion I continue to forge new ground musically on their latest LP Shadowboxing, a beat-heavy hip-hop album decidedly grittier than past projects. Always pushing the literal—and figurative—needle forward, the duo, consisting of emcee Zumbi and producer Amp Live, have once again created something experimental and heartfelt. Shadowboxing features guests such as Bassnectar, Collie Buddz, Grouch and Eligh, and Goapele.
A move from the live instrumentation of their last record, Shadowboxing enlists a range of producers such as Traxamillion, DexBeats, Minnesota, who bring an unconventional, eclectic flavor to the album. With its futuristic beat, "Float," produced by Santa Cruz up-and-comer Minnesota, is reminiscent of Zion I's earlier work, Mind Over Matter. On "Bounce," Bassnectar masters the manipulating of frequencies and crushing basslines. "I just did my thing with the image of a huge crowd going ham in my mind while I penned the verse," explains Zumbi of recording the track.
Thematically, Shadowboxing is signature Zion I: "This is an album about metaphorical kicks and throws at oneself," explains Zumbi, "looking inward at the shadow self, and seeking awareness in the darkness of one's own psyche."

Mike Mictlan - SNAXXX (2012)

Бесплатный цифровой релиз и ограниченный тираж в 300 копий на CD с дополнительными опциями - новый альбом участника Doomtree выходит 29 сентября. Прежде Mike Mictlan выпустил свои "False Hopes" и совместный с продюсером Lazerbeak альбом "Hand Over Fist". На этот раз  Lazerbeak даже не прикоснулся к сольному альбому  Mictlan'а, продюсеры: 2% Muck, DJ Rich-Dog, Paper Tiger и Mike Frey.

Over Fist, his first full-length album in collaboration with Lazerbeak. He’s played a key role in helping Doomtree, his rap crew for over a decade now, steadily climb into the national spotlight; touring the world over again and again, playing major summer festivals (Lollapalooza, Paid Dues), and winning over critics the likes of Pitchfork, MTV, Spin, and Rolling Stone off of their collaborative 2011 release No Kings.
SNAXXX is the culmination of those four years grinding it out on the road, and it marks a giant leap forward from Mike’s previous solo work. His million-mile-a-minute delivery, tongue twister patterns, and abstract introspection remain completely intact, but there is a much more playful, ambitiously creative side that now creeps heavily into the mix. Musically, SNAXXX takes the traditional everything-plus-the-kitchen-sink Doomtree sound and blows the doors off the hinges. New comer 2% Muck (Tha Clerb, Spyder Baybie Raw Dog) produces 11 of the 15 tracks, and it’s his rapid fire snare patterns, crushing low end, and blown out synth lines that anchor and shape this new sonic direction for Mike. SNAXXX also features a slew of Minnesota’s finest up and coming rappers (Lizzo, Greg Grease, Spyder Baybie Raw Dog, Freez) along with lifelong Doomtree partner-in-crime P.O.S, who shows up on two of the album’s cuts.
Doomtree is releasing SNAXXX out into the world for absolutely free while Mike wraps up his next official full length, in order to give people a taste of where he’s at now and where he’s headed. Just think of it as the stepping stone between Hand Over Fist and the future world of HELLA FRREAL. "3" потому что третий альбом коллектива из Чикаго в составе: Qwel, Qwazaar, Denizen Kane, Kid Knish и DJ Natural. Typical Cats return, the last of the great true school crews—bearers of transformed tradition, innovators par excellence, and heralds of an undying devotion to the science and magic of boom bap music. The latest installment in the TC saga is 3, their third studio full-length. It plays like a message in a bottle from Hip Hop's timeless present to the bizarre post-physical, digital, viral world in which we live. DJ Natural's production chops have only deepened with time, and the rugged loops of the self-titled "Orange Album" and the live instrumentation of Civil Service have melded to yield a mйlange of soul, jazz, funk, roots, radical politics, and a sly refusal to bend to the dictates of current fashion. Kid Knish reprises his role as hip hop's all-time greatest unseen crew member (sorry, Jarobi), serving up samples, historical references, and vinyl oddities for Natural to slice and serve as android slabs of production genius.
TC's trio of MCs—Qwel, Denizen Kane, and Qwazaar—rhyme like men breathing from the soles of their feet. The basis of their legend is in full effect—crackling chemistry, unnerving flow, and true stories. The album plays like a jazz-era cutting session turned confessional booth, a stylistically freewheeling effort threaded together by moments of revelation, underpinned by fiercely focused production and dominated by stories of journey, moments of transformation, and warnings against coming catastrophe. For TC, the MC is a misunderstood figure, a musical seer, a minor prophet, and reluctant hustler, using words to outwit enemies, trump circumstances, and emerge from the belly of the beast with respect and rent money.
Highlights abound—Kane returning to his spoken word roots on "Denizen Walks Away," Qwel giving his early battle rap classics a run for their money on nickel-plated platters like "My Watch" and "Gordeon Knock," and Qwazaar flexing uncanny musical intuition, anchoring the record with meditative efforts on "Puzzling Thing" and "Reflections from the Porch" before pummeling tracks like "Better Luck" and "On My Square." Although the LP is studded with solo shots, crew tracks are the soul of the record. "On My Square" opens with a flurry of horns before exploding into an array of signature styles—multisyllabic combinations from Qwel, laid-back but incisive chatting from Kane, and a classic Qwa verse full of declarations, threats, and witticisms, all cemented by a Qwel chorus imbued with requisite layers of meaning. Natural's production evolves with each verse, sliding from Meters style guitars with knocking drums to moody keys with ease.
The first single, "The Crown" is a frenetic display of jagged guitars and style-shifting that makes it a perfect complement to the Orange Album's classic "Reinventing." The name, however, is something of a misnomer. TC have never been interested in being kings. They've been griots shouting from the village limits, stoning the village idiots, interrupting thieves, and solidifying sterling reputations as rappers' rappers, smokers' smokers, underground Gs, tribal chiefs. There will never be another Typical Cats. They leave the set like five men exiting a burning building, leaving wrecked stages and a catalog of classics in their wake. With their exodus, we find ourselves suddenly grown, having come of age with the culture, standing, as always, at the crossroads. With the music, we move like Gayle Sayers, howl like Magic Sam, see the city like a kid on the project bench, and mark it all down in a black book that will never close. It is what it is. Forever.

Evitan - Speed Of Life (2012)

Первый альбом группы Evitan является своеобразной точкой пересечения исторических линий двух легендарных нью-йоркских групп. Дуэт состоит из участников Black Sheep и A Tribe Called Quest - Dres и Jarobi. Их совместный альбом "Speed Of Life" вышел 21 сентября на лэйбле Pool Of Genius, основателем которого является Dres.

The genesis of the evitaN project is rooted in the traditional spirit of Native Tongues; the movement, the message and the music. Andres "Dres" Titus of Black Sheep, and Jarobi White of A Tribe Called Quest, have joined together to form the group evitaN, a name that pays homage to its inspiration as it is the word "native" spelled backwards. Both Dres and Jarobi were instrumental members of the Native Tongue movement while within their respective groups.
The marked difference between the artists being that Dres has a body of work to reference, whereas prior to the evitaN releases, no one had yet to hear Jarobi rhyme. In Jarobi's 20 year affiliation with the iconic group A Tribe Called Quest, he had not appeared on any released music, instead opting to lend his positive energy and creative input to the group in other ways. Based on their longstanding relationship, Dres was always interested to unleash the MC within Jarobi, and recently invited him to the studio to collaborate on a new project.
The result was spectacular, and fireworks exploded in the booth as Dres jumped on the first track with Jarobi, and the duo created an instant classic called "Keep, Keeping On", and now, 25 tracks later, the rest is and will be Hip Hop history. Represented by Dres's independent label Pool of Genius, evitaN represents the true essence of hip hop music. Hip hop in its purest form, with lyrics that paint motion pictures in the mind of the listener, and beats that hit you in your chest and heart simultaneously. evitaN is ready to make their mark on the world, and now it's time for the world to get ready to listen.

Danny! - Payback (2012)

Его трудно назвать продюсирующим эмси, как и читающим продюсером - равномерно сочетающий в себе оба амплуа представитель Клифорнии Danny Swain и его уже шестой альбом (девятый с учетом инструментальных релизов). Danny! отложил выход "Payback" больше, чем на пол года, потому что никак не мог определиться с лэйблом, изначально альбом вообще планировалось выпустить собственными силами. Если кто-то, не знал интернет проект Questlove'а имеет ещё и качество звукозаписывающей студии. Так вот после восстановления этой функции, релиз "Payback" состоялся именно на Okayplayer Records 25 сентября. Все треки спродюсировал Danny!. На обложке альбома Токио.

Propaganda - Excellent (2012)

Новинка от  Humble Beast. Динамично развивающийся лэйбл из Портленда уже порадовал нас в этом году отличными альбомами Theory Hazit и Beautiful Eulogy, представитель Лос-Анджелеса Propaganda выпускает уже второй релиз с этой независимой студией после его совместной работо с Odd Thomas в 2011 году. Продюсер Odd Thomas поучаствовал и на этом альбоме рэппера  Propaganda, правда уже в составе Beautiful Eulogy, всю музыку для альбома "Excellent" написали участники группы, куда помимо него входят Braille и Courtland Urbano. Релиз 25 сентября.

Sonically, this stings driven album displays very unique blend of backwoods blues with some California sunshine that is very hard to categorize. With production solely carried by Beautiful Eulogy (Courtland Urbano, Braille and Odd Thomas) the listener is treated to more than tracks, but musical movements that are almost orchestral! Like his previous release, prop continues to display his versatility, seamlessly switching between rap and spoken word poetry. However, unlike props previous releases, there is not 1 sample on this record. All the Guitars, vocals and keys were all made from scratch by Beautiful Eulogy! If you like good strong drums, street level lyricism fused with philosophical poetry, this is your record, and it is...EXCELLENT!

Chino XL - RICANstruction: The Black Rosary (2012)

Насколько долгожданное, настолько и громкое возвращение Chino XL (надеюсь, вы его ещё не забыли). Не один год  рэппер из Нью-Джерси с пуэрториканскими корнями (ссылка в названии альбома именно на это) готовил свой четвёртый сольный альбом, в итоге материала накопилось сразу на два диска, которые должны компенсировать поклонникам 6 лет ожидания, пусть в 2008-м Chino и напомнил о себе дуэтом с продюсером Playalitical. После многочисленных отсрочек и переносов "RICANstruction: The Black Rosary" вышел на скромном нью-йоркском лэйбле Viper Records 25 сентября. Chino XL - один из тех, кого в хип-хлпе принято считать лириками от бога, он признанный мастер панчлайнов и метафор, кроме того, он является единственным из известных рэпперов, кто входи в Менса (сообщество людей с нереально высоким IQ).

Blaq Poet - E.B.K. (EveryBody Killa) (2012)

Абориген восточного побережья Blaq Poet в последнее время зачастил не на шутку, уже четвёртый альбом за три года поклонникам хардкора на радость. Что интересно, все эти альбомы участник Screwball выпустил на разных лэйблах. Перекочевав этот раз на малоизвестный On The Block Entertainment, Blaq Poet выпускает пятый сольный альбом. Среди продюсеров можно выделить разве что Stu Bangas и Thorotracks, однако на E.B.K. преобладает продакшен от Nickel Plated. First heard in 1987, at the age of 17, on the KRS-One diss track "Beat You Down," Queensbridge veteran MC Blaq Poet would later go on to form the group PhD alongside DJ Hot Day (their debut effort, Without Warning, was released in 1991 on Tuff City Records), and later the group Screwball, with fellow QB emcees KL, Hostyle and Kyron. Screwball's debut album Y2K spawned the classic singles "Who Shot Rudy," (in reference to former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani) and "F.A.Y.B.A.N." Screwball followed up their debut with 2000's Loyalty (Landspeed Records), but the group split up after the passing of KL in 2008, and Blaq Poet went on to sign a solo deal with DJ Premier and dropped 2009's Tha Blaqprint on Year Round Records, on which DJ Premier produced 13 tracks.
In 2001, Poet joined forces with Brutal Music and Brick Records and released the acclaimed Blaq Poet Society, which featured Vinnie Paz, Capone, R.A. the Rugged Man, Reef the Lost Cauze, Chief Kamachi, Wais P and Demigodz MC's Celph Titled and Apathy.
This year, Blaq Poet is back with another vicious album, this time on indy imprint On The Block, but still crammed with that wicked lyrical content Poet has built his career on. While other QB mc's have softened over the years, Blaq Poet seems to get rougher around the edges as time ticks by. On E.B.K. (short for EveryBodyKilla), Po delivers more knockout punches on the mic than all of his previous efforts combined, and does so with the support of guests Sha Stimuli, Ruste Juxx, Shabaam Sahdeeq, Reef the Lost Cauze, Punchline, Nutso, and Ty Nitty, plus beats by up-and-comer Nickel Plated and Brutal Music's Stu Bangas. On the album's title cut, he even takes headshots at such rap icons as Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, Eminem, Souljah Boy, and even Kanye West.
Just when you thought it was safe...

Iron Lyon - From The Ground Up (2012)

When asked to describe his latest album, Iron Lyon simply states: "it's one smooth ride with no filler, a true album from beginning to end inspired by my life experience." That's precisely what the sophomore LP, "From the Ground Up" is. The seasoned emcee/DJ presents a work that cohesively sets a vibe of 90s nostalgia that is still relevant and much needed in today's landscape. Set to drop September 6, 2012--as a follow-up to the "Time Capsule" LP & "The Foundation" EP--it is with much anticipation that the album brings listeners 16 tracks of audible substance. He not only raps on the project, but also showcases his turntablist skills by scratching over various tracks. This album's unique musical formula additionally spawned from producers, Chad Dubz and Mr. Koichi, also features Sean Price, Edo G, Slim Kid Tre of The Pharcyde, and others.
Upon temporarily locating to Miami, FL for spring 2011, Iron Lyon was immediately greeted by a severe bus accident, almost ceasing his music career and therefore having to put "From The Ground Up" on the back burner...until now. He credits the city of New York as a significant voice in his life and music; similar to the city's daily struggle, progression, and rapture, "From the Ground Up" conveys a myriad of personal conquests and influences laced over classic hip-hop flavored instrumentals tinged in diversity. The album showcases musical influences ranging from classic reggae, to Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, Aaliyah, Black Sabbath, etc., and speaks to an equally diverse audience. For instance, the songs "Walk Away" & "Got Love" tap into Lyon's connection to West Indian culture, while "So Called Problems" has acoustic loops merged with boom bap drums and a John Mayer sample as the hook.
The first single, "Step Into The Night" has already been sneak-previewed on Peter Rosenberg's show on world-renowned Hot97 and Statik Selektah's show on Shade45. In just a few weeks, the track and video are officially dropping, and the full LP being released early September with a firm stamp of approval from the classic indie hip-hop outfit that is Fatbeats. Shortly thereafter, the next video and single off the project, "Summer in the City" will follow. Undoubtedly, "From the Group Up" will be stirring quite a buzz in the viral circuit and giving hip-hop and music enthusiasts everywhere an album that can accompany them for years to come.

Seth Sentry - This Was Tomorrow (2012)

Seth Sentry - исполнитель из Австралии, а "This Was Tomorrow"  - его дебютный альбом. The album, titled This Was Tomorrow, is a ground breaking and utterly relatable hip-‐hop masterpiece. To bring the album to the fans, Seth has announced a 14-‐date tour through cities and regional centres in September and October, including appearances at Fat As Butter and Sprung Festivals.
