Rapper Big Pooh пополнил ряды Mello Music Group

Rapper Big Pooh подписал контракт с лэйблом Mello Music Group на 2014 год. За это время планируется выпустить 2 релиза с участием рэппера: летом должна увидеть свет его совместная работа с продюсером Nottz, затем - расширенный EP-альбом на продакшн битмейкеров MMG.
Для Rapper Big Pooh это хороший шанс оживить свою сольную карьеру, несмотря на большое количество альбомов и микстейпов, на фоне Phonte и 9th Wonder его успехи после распада Little Brother выглядят не столь значительными.

Rapper Big Pooh has signed a two project deal with Mello Music Group for 2014. The first project is with legendary producer Nottz and will be released this summer on MMG. The second project is an extended EP produced by Mello beat-makers exclusively. To celebrate we're giving away a new track from Rapper Big Pooh off the just released Mandala Vol. 2, Today's Mathematics.
Those new to Rapper Big Pooh have a lot of listening to catch up on, from his start the legendary group Little Brother, to more recent work with Kendrick Lamar. Mello Music Group first worked with Big Pooh in 2009 on a song with Georgia Anne Muldrow and MED titled Endure and then for the track Drugs Outside with Oddisee and Black Milk. MMG is excited to finally have Rapper Big Pooh working with the squad in 2014.

Mandala Vol. 1, Polysonic Flows is the fourth Mello Music Group compilation – previous compilations include Mental Liberation, Helpless Dreamer, and Self Sacrifice. It’s also perhaps our best to date.
The album showcases our ever-evolving roster of top-tier producers and rappers, many of whom (e.g. Oddisee, Quelle Chris, Has-Lo) fill both roles with equal dexterity. Additionally, it features several artists MMG plans to collaborate with in 2014, a testament to our commitment to working with those who possess singular sonic and lyrical abilities.
Mandala Vol. 1, Polysonic Flows is at once compact and comprehensive. Clocking in at twenty tracks, there is not a minute wasted and not a miss in sight. It is diverse and yet somehow cohesive, tailor made to rock your car speakers and your brain stem. It is MMG’s reminder that hip-hop is alive and well, and a reintroduction to a label that’s tried never to forget what makes music compelling.
With ten distinctive producers behind the boards, the soundscapes on Mandala Vol. 1, Polysonic Flows cover the map and the album is all the better for it. Oddisee of course helms the opener and tracks throughout with a musicality like few in Hip-Hop today. L’Orange brings subtle, jazzy suites to the table, and Quelle Chris provides dusty samples looped over hard-hitting drums as well as anyone else on the record. Jeremiah Jae also makes sure the bass-rattling, electronic bangers coming out of L.A.’s beat scene are well represented. Nothing here is solely run-of-the-mill boom-bap. Each beat is far richer and more inventive, able to play on its own and provide the perfect complement to the raps at hand.
As far as the rhymes are concerned, the rappers we’ve selected for Mandala Vol. 1, Polysonic Flows leave nothing to chance. MMG heavyweights like yU and Has-lo cut with long practiced precision, and newcomers like Castle are in top form. The same can also be said of Hellfyre Club features Open Mike Eagle and Milo. Regardless of who’s on the mic, scores of bare-knuckle battle rap bars are tempered with rhymes both emotionally raw and mentally challenging. The MCs on our comp are intelligent and self-aware, capable of the comic, tragic, and in-between at the sound of a snare. They have an old-school reverence for rhyme with a modern state of mind and modern problems. Come-up or comedown, shine or shadow, friend or foe – they are fearless in confronting all fears.
Above all, Mandala Vol. 1, Polysonic Flows is MMG’s opening salvo for the new year, a sign of the great and innovative music we plan to release. We’re proud to call it the first 2014 jewel in the crown of our crest.

Модерн-соул альбом "Saturn Return" повествует об отношениях Aaron Abernathy, он же AB, и девушки по имени Lalah. Третьим-лишним тут стал 14KT, который поучаствовал на альбоме в качестве со-продюсера, что едва ли могло сказаться на его качестве не в лучшую сторону. Тем не менее, главное действующее лицо всё же AB, певец и продюсер, представляющий Кливленд. Работа над "Saturn Return" продлилась 5 лет.

Saturn Return is more than an album... It’s a story that was developed by two friends, while they were individually working their way through one of the most grueling transition periods of their lives. This period left them both questioning their purpose in life, what they wanted for themselves, what made them happy, as well as who they were.
Their conversations and the continual support of each other led soul singer Aaron “Ab” Abernathy and beat-smith 14KT to co-produce a progressive soul album focused on a love story between characters Ab and Lalah. However, it is an experience that anyone can relate to.
While the story is great, it doesn’t overshadow the music. Saturn Return is filled with a plethora of different musical landscapes. 14KT’s signature hard-hitting drums and euphoric atmosphere mixed with Ab’s melodic and soulful approach to instrumentation consistently mirror each other in every stage of this album and sonically lays the foundation for its in-depth lyrical content. It’s the perfect way for listeners to sit in on the intimate love relationship between characters Ab & Lalah and witness all the vulnerability that comes with it.
In addition to lyrical vulnerability, Ab’s vocal versatility matches his emotional rollercoaster from start to finish. On the opening selection his Marvin Gaye like falsetto and background vocals are haunting and resurface again on “Heavenly” where he bares his love for Lalah. Aggressive styles of funk vocals are revealed on “Lover’s Galaxy” in pursuit of his lover while his sinister harmonic lead on “Forget Who I Am” is reminiscent of Prince over 14KT’s pulsating deranged production. Ab is a choir of voices on “God (Food & Water)” and last but not least you’ll find his subtle and somber vocal style on “Sweatpants & My Cardigan,” the self-produced duet with vocalist Shelley Barnes.
Then there is “Forgotten.” This stand out record is where you’ll find the duo’s co-production at its best. It features Ab’s Nat Turner affiliate Malik Hunter assisting on upright bass coupled with both producers on keys and percussion and leaves you no choice but to get up and dance.
It’s not often that two producers with two different styles go through the same thing at the same time and collaboratively use their personal struggle in their everyday lives to create something that has the possibility of being so impactful. Saturn Return is a conceptual journey through music and love that pulls you in because the album is about a part of your past or present life.

Evidence has traveled the world, released a string of acclaimed albums with Dilated Peoples and as a solo artist, has become a respected producer crafting beats for Kanye West, Beastie Boys and Linkin Park among others. For his part, Alchemist has become one of rap's triple threats, producing for Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Nas and many more. Alchemist is also an accomplished rapper and Eminem's touring DJ. While they were building their respective careers, Evidence and Alchemist had worked together regularly collaborating on Dilated Peoples albums, Evidence's solo material and Alchemist's releases. The hip-hop veterans cite their experiences partying at EDM clubs as inspiration for this experimental new project, which fuses a hip-hop attitude with the sonic vocabulary of EDM production styles. The mix of instrumental-only tracks and tracks with lyrics makes for a diverse project with glitch-hop roots. Labeling their character “Molly” as a drug reference would be an oversimplification: A-Plus says of their concept, “…some songs are more about a cool girl named Molly, others about a not so cool girl named Molly.” For nearly two decades, A-Plus has been honing his skills as producer, artist, and businessman as a founding member of Hieroglyphics and Souls Of Mischief. He and AAGEE joined forces as production teamCompound 7 to earn production credits on albums such as A-Plus' My Last Good Deed and Casual's Smash Rockwell LP. Their concept album, Pepper Spray, which features fellow Hiero member Del The Funky Homosapien, reimagined some of the Red Hot Chili Peppers' most epic tracks.

The Coney Island is more than a local restaurant. The Coney represents Detroit on a greater scale. The Greek brothers who founded the Coney Island came to Detroit seeking opportunity and made something out of nothing. With their signature item, the Coney dog, a hotdog that was more than a hotdog, and unique to Detroit, they became legendary. Today it is a Detroit staple, a place to eat and spend time in the inner city for quick meals, hanging with friends, after the club, or to just read the paper. Every neighborhood in Detroit has a Coney Island and you could no more have one than the other.
