Description:

HOLY SMOKE is the fabled collaboration between producer/rappers Jeremiah Jae & zeroh. The nine songs recorded together in Los Angeles 2012 focus on the spirit, health and the sacred use of cannabis.

The swiftly-produced HOLY SMOKE sessions got buried in Jae's relentless release schedule, ultimately archived in 2013 after a fresh signing with Warp Records and return to Chicago. The world's only clues to these lost sessions came in the appearance of tracks Trusted Friends" (2012) and "Black Myth" (2013) on HIT+RUN compilation albums.

Excavated from the vaults in early 2016, the nine-track self-titled HOLY SMOKE album [HNR63], finally sees a proper release on September 13th via HIT+RUN. Available on limited-edition cassette tapes, as well as special 10" colored vinyl (containing unique trails of silver smoke encased in clear wax) and housed in a one-of-a-kind silkscreened jacket (featuring artwork by zeroh & PsyteOne).

He has done numerous overseas activist work, ranging from race relations in South Africa to establishing musical cohorts in Indonesia. He is a founding member of nationally known Christian hip hop group 116 Clique. Sho Baraka is also the founder of Forth District.

He now desires to blend his artistic platform with his academic leanings to contribute a unique perspective in both arenas in hopes of raising the standard, thereby raising the culture. Sho currently lives in Atlanta, GA and co-leads a consulting network that is active in cultural renewal.

North Carolina based duo LegSweep Specialist has announced a full-length album, LegSweep, to be released on Below System Records. The album is the first pairing of emcee Fuzz Jaxx and producer/emcee Sam Brown.

For listeners who miss tracks with soulful loops, chopped breaks and conscious/down to earth lyricism, LegSweep is a much needed purchase. Though this is their debut as a group, both artists are Hip-Hop lifers who have paid many dues in the culture. Greenville, NC native Sam Brown has spent the last fifteen years mastering his rhyme-style and beat-making with the MPC. In love with the music, Brown headed to the mecca of the sound in New York City, where he assisted many sessions at the legendary Quad Studios.

Fuzz Jaxx's career as an emcee stretches back the mid 90's in his hometown of Augusta, GA. As a member of Shaft he gained local notoriety and a following. Arriving in Wilmington, NC in 97, he has grown to a respected lyricist and cornerstone of the underground Hip-Hop scene there and in neighboring regions. Besides his solo work, some other Fuzz Jaxx projects have included the four man crew, N.H.A. and the live Hip-Hop fusion band, Organix.

On the formation of LegSweep Specialist Brown relates "when I moved to Wilmington after being in New York, I met Fuzz. We really connected on an artistic level and while I loved him with Organix, this record is a showcase of him just going in lyrically. With this initial release we really found our groove as a duo and have already began working on Fuzz's next solo album, which I am executive producing."

Your Boy Tony Braxton - это на самом деле Shad, правда совсем не тот Shad, которого мы привыкли слышать. Он тоже решил попробовать себя в чем-то новом и сместиться от хип-хопа к року, во всяком случае про этот свой необычный альбом он написал, что это "мягкий рок". Дебют и возвращение одновременно - U.G., 1/2 Cella Dwellas, выпускает свой первый сольный альбом после огромной паузы из-за простоя группы, выпустившей всего два альбома. "Realms 'n Reality" (1996) справедливо причислен к классике жанра.

Armed with his unique delivery, gruff voice, and sharp wit, U.G. is well-equipped to do just as he wishes when he hits the booth. Whether on his own or earning critical acclaim as one-half of the Cella Dwellas, the Brooklyn rapper has been a giant amongst the NYC rap underground since '94. And on Portals, his long anticipated solo debut, he proves exactly why so many look his way for music that's incredibly fresh, and completely his own.

Portals is a 14-track journey into just what U.G. set out to accomplish-a movie-like atmosphere anchored by well complemented production (entirely from IDE) and extraordinary rapping. That much was evident on lead single, "The Mystic," which is equally eccentric in its wordplay and technical displays as U.G. flows over the creeping instrumental. Elsewhere, the BK spitter taps into his cinematic vision with joints like the harrowing "Might & Magic," and the super-grimy, "Ready for War."

Interestingly enough, U.G. credits his movie-like approach with what makes his music so appealing to his fans. "That inner-kid comes out of them when they hear that stuff," he says. "We (U.G. and IDE) are both visual artists as far as our approach to sound is concerned."

Beyond the concept, the rapper and producer just love Hip-Hop culture and wanted to represent it right. They may be taking a Boom bap excursion into another dimension-and likely one in a distant galaxy-on Portals, but this is pure, raw, unadulterated Hip-Hop to the bone gristle.

Portals is set to drop Oct 21st via Creative Juices Music, and will be available on Compact Disc as well all major digital retailers and streaming platforms. Its features include Mista Sinista, DJ White Shadow, Celph Titled, Life Long, and Necro.

Хотелось бы сказать, что это юбилейный десятый альбом группы Zion I, но это не так. На самом деле, как это ни печально, группы Zion I фактически больше не существует, а это сольный альбом Baba Zumbi также известного как MC Zion - без Amp Live. Дуэт просуществовал почти 20 лет и стал одним из лучших примеров прогресса и развития рэп-музыки в 21 веке. Грозящий стать последним альбом "Shadowboxing" вышел в 2012 году, однако, уже после "The Take Over" (2009) Amp стал заметно терять интерес к группе, активно участвовать в сторонних проектах, уделять много внимания сольному творчеству. Трио составляют рэппер с запоминающимся флоу Eric the Red, ещё один эмси Sean Peng, а также продюсера Illinformed, который в прошлом году записал LP-коллабо с Verb T. Трио Grand Tapestry - одна из тех невероятных альтернатив, что готовы послужить достойным ответом скептикам, считающим рэп ограниченной музыкой или вообще не музыкой. Хип-хоп с индийским мотивом, Dr. Dre и DJ Quik спокойны, а вот Eligh ввязался в очередную кросс-жанровую авантюру, и, кажется, на этот раз не прогадал. Помимо легенды калифорнийской инди-сцены в Grand Tapestry входят два не столь близких к хип-хопу джентльмена: Alam Khan и Salar Nader. Первый играет на необычном струнном инструменте сарод, используемом в индийской национальной музыке, которую Alam Khan исполняет уже около 15 лет, таким образом не забывая о своих корнях, несмотря на то, что с рождения живёт в Калифорнии. Rap has gone global but there's still very few instances where the realms of rap and world music meet. Marrying hip-hop with classical Indian music, the newly formed group Grand Tapestry, bridges that gap. Featuring Eligh, an independent hip-hop artist, Alam Khan on the 25-stringed fretless instrument called the sarode, and Salar Nader on the Indian drum known as the tabla.
Alam is the son of the late legendary Maestro Ali Akbar Khan. Ali Akbar Khan was known as the greatest Sarode player of modern times, and is responsible for bringing Indian music to the west. Salar is a disciple of Tabla Master Zakir Hussain. Eligh, an independent rapper and producer, from Los Angeles, is touted for his style, content and love for the abstract. Listen with your eyes closed, mind open, and find yourself in a wondrous state.

Westside Gunn - один из новичков последних лет (дебютировал он в этом году), который несмотря на бандитский имидж был записан в фавориты Apollo Brown. Conway - его брат, вместе они записали пару релизов и появились на одном из треков недавнего коллабо Apollo и Skyzoo. Так что про эту парочку из Баффало услышим ещё не раз, а пока маленький французский релиз от Conway aka Conway the Machine с битами от бельгийца Mil.

Conway and his brother Westside Gunn can boast of being the first to have put the city of Buffalo on the map of Hip Hop.

In a very short time, the two brothers have won the favour of the greatests like Dj Premier, The Alchemist and Apollo Brown among others. But they also multiply the collabs like this 4 track EP coming out on EFFISCIENZ and produced entirely by Mil.

The rap is atmospheric and the lyrics are those of a bandit as Conway says it in the first joint "Just Gangsta". The second track "To the streets" is an ode to the street where the rapper battles with his demons. Such as when he was shot, leaving him with scars and a hardly concealable facial paralysis.

On the musical side, Mil provides the perfect atmosphere for this record. Thus, the producer perfectly maintains the high performance he did on the last project of the legendary band from Cincinnati "Mood" which he entirely produced. The sound is sometimes disturbing and grimey like the cold streets of this city from the New York state, but also terribly melodious as this somptuous jazz version that gives an entirely new note to the original title.

This project surprises us like a bullet, not by the speed of the emcees flow, neither by the bpm of the beats, but as a release coming out of nowhere, like a murderous trap set up to the Rap game between Buffalo & Paris.

Murs установил мировой рекорд

Murs предпринял попытку вписать своё имя в Книгу рекордов Гиннесса, исполнив 24-часовой рэп-марафон, который транслировался на YouTube-канале сотового оператора Boost Mobile. Не стоит путать этот рекорд с самым длинным рэп-фристайлом, во время своего выступления рэппер исполнил классические хип-хоп треки и кое-что из собственного творчества (полный список песен - внизу страницы). Исполняя чужие треки, Murs успешно подражал манере своих знаменитых коллег. При подготовке и во время марафона ему помогал его друг продюсер Mr. Len. В общем вся сессия длилась около 26 часов, каждый час Murs делал пятиминутные паузы на естественные потребности.

Пока не известно, будет ли занесено это достижение в знаменитую книгу рекордов, однако на следующий день после того, как марафон Murs'а финишировал, многие интернет источники написали что рэппер "побил" мировой рекорд. На самом деле такого рекорда никогда не существовало, в Книге рекордов Гиннеса такой записи никогда не было и рекорд ветерана из Лос-Анджелеса уникален.

А вот попыток установить рекорд по самому продолжительному фристайлу было не мало. Однако на сайте рекордов Гиннесса страница с самым продолжительным индивидуальным рэп-фристайлом почему-то удалена в данный момент. В сети можно найти уйму никому неизвестных имён фристайлеров, которые якобы небезуспешно били рекорд, который в разное время принадлежал таким рэпперам как Supernatural, D.O., M-Eighty и Chiddy Bang. И всё же если верить источникам, в настоящий момент корона принадлежит человеку по имени Romane Armand, который 16 и 17 августа 2014 года исполнил фристайл продолжительностью 24 часа и 49 секунд.

Mr. Lif ожил после контракта с MMG, уже второй альбом в этом году после сольного камбэка "Don't Look Down". L'Orange, кажется, нашёл себе идеального напарника в прошлом году, коим стал Jeremiah Jae, сделать что-то столь же пробирающее и в то же время абстрактное под стать имиджу бостонского ветерана - вот новый вызов для одного из самых талантливых продюсеров современности. George Orwell once prophesized, “if you want a vision of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face - forever.” The latest EP from L’Orange & Mr. Lif, The Life and Death of Scenery, conceives a chimerical “lighthearted dystopia” just far enough from modernity to breathe easily, but close enough to make you consider relocating to that cave in the forest. In this collaboration with the eccentric North Carolina producer, L’Orange, Lif imagines an adjacent future called the “last society,” where culture has been obliterated and physical survival has taken precedence over art.

Released through a partnership between Adult Swim and Mello Music Group, the duo’s latest opus opens with one of four addresses from “The Narrator” (played by The Daily Show’s Wyatt Cenac). These Big Brother missives capture a world where the, “books are all burned, the vinyl has been melted, and the remaining art catapulted over the city walls.” The mere act of whistling is cause for the guillotine. It’s the rap analogue to Fahrenheit 451, 1984, or a Brave New World, where the Soma is uncomfortably soothing and the sunshine eerily abundant.

The former Def Jux legend inhabits on the role of The Scribe, frantically showing the post-apocalyptic survivors the power of what's been lost. It attacks those who value disposable art over the timeless; it articulates the necessity of preserving culture; it lampoons the absurdity of attempting to destroy one of the most immutable qualities in mankind.

In L’Orange’s words, the collaboration is “a negotiation of influences without compromise.” You can hear the producer’s trademark alchemy of classic boom-rap with glitchy fuzz, a compressed whimsy that slaps against somber scythe-like piano lines, ominous spaghetti western licks, and celestial saxophone licks.

Lif spits staccato bars in double-time, adeptly slicing through the beats like banned books to a shredder. He’s joined on “Antique Gold” by the 19-year old monotone samurai, Chester Watson. Gonjasufi’s banshee yelp makes “Strange Technology” even more resonant. Insight bombards on “Five Lies About the World Outside.” The legendary turntablist Q-Bert contributes cuts on “The Scribe.” While Akrobatik, Lif’s longtime partner in The Perceptionists, pops up twice to exhibit their almost telepathic tag-team chemistry.

The rapping is virtuosic. The production is sumptuous and scene setting.
