It's truly apt that Raw Money Raps opens with Jeremiah Jae hazily reminiscing about awakening from an especially chimerical journey. After a kaleidoscopic grip of beat tapes, EPs and mixtapes that have sent wi-fi connections rumbling, as well as a move from windswept Chi-city to the home of his Brainfeeder crew in LA, Jae unveils his sprawling debut full-length release. More than just an album, this is an all-encompassing Pynchonian, Tumblr-feeding, social networked art-rap fever dream. A seismic collision of the analog and digital worlds makes for deceptively hooky beats that double as sonic rabbit-holes, all of which cradles Jae's flow – which is a versatile instrument all it's own, skipping from rapid, focused deliveries to surprising melodic sing-a-longs then chopped-and-screwed slump and stream of consciousness brainfloods.
To be a young producer and MC in 2012 is no easy task, however with style and substance in short order and internet democratization run-rampant, there's arguably never been a better time for one to make their mark. Rather than jump headlong into the cresting 1990's throwback revival, Jae develops tracks and lyrics that link technology and metaphysics in a defiantly contemporary way, flipping swag rap tropes on their head and reveals a penchant for affecting introspection. This singular approach to music is almost certainly a by-product of Jae's split personality as a visual artist. Working in the context of fine art with paintings and collages as well as spreading into fashion design, Jae's output aligns him with multi-media luminaries like the late, great Rammellzee.
Raw Money Raps' first single, "Money" is a where-did-my-cash-go-mid- afternoon summer jam for hot cloudy days ahead, accompanied by a suitably tweaked video directed by fellow renaissance man Flying Lotus. "Money" comes paired with another album standout in "Money and Food", which takes trap rap's unhinged synths and 808 kicks and filters them through Jae's prism. Across it's span, the album touches on fractured, cautionary headbangers ("Rover"), stringladen classicism ("Cat Fight") and deeply psychedelic futurism ("Hercules Versus the Commune") and in the process, ignites the brightest rising star of 2012. The mood of the album reflects extremes and is bi-polar at times, from calm to manic, based mainly in analog synthesizers and heavy drum breaks. In Boston, MCs that aspire to the gritty New York sound of Timberland stomps have slowly—yet steadily—created their footprints throughout the hip-hop stratosphere. One of the more promising names to spring out of the early aughts was Reks from Lawrence, Massachusetts.
After returning from a long-lasting hiatus, Reks has made quite a name for himself in recent years, thanks to his critically heralded comeback album, Grey Hairs in 2008, well-conceived albums like Rhythmatic Eternal King Supreme in 2011, and the more recent Statik Selektah-produced Straight, No Chaser. With the political climate warming up, Rebelutionary, is Reks’ second effort from 2012, in which the dexterous lyricist employs socially conscious verses to unveil fallacies and question various societal issues.
On “Bang Bang,” Reks satirically inquires the legitimacy of firearm usage, checking the authority’s rights, “Police gangbang ‘til we bleed, quick-blooded, blood fluid, bust ruger to maneuver the hellish slums.” Then he briefly turns to problems concerning capitalism on “Obedient Workers,” before culminating the details of inner-city violence and injustice in the highlight “Shotgun.” Undoubtedly, lyrics remain Reks’ calling card, but his collaboration with Numonics perfectly compliments every song on the album and is equally praiseworthy. Its sample-driven sound, hard-hitting drums, and overall solemn mood displayed throughout the entire project match the in-depth lyricism Reks’ attempts to enforce, and the message he tries to convey.
Every moment is praiseworthy. While the subject matters are nothing revolutionary, as many MCs have raised concerns of the issues in the past, the energy, and the timing of a project of such caliber is surely appreciated.

Following the success of two collaborative releases (EMC “The Show”/2008 and Ace & Edo G “Arts & Entertainment” /2009), Masta Ace joins forces with the metal faced MF Doom for Son of Yvonne, a highly personal concept album that celebrates the life and legacy of Ace’s recently departed Mother. Like his 2004 landmark Disposable Arts, Son of Yvonne is meticulously constructed with stories, settings, and characters that resonate with flesh and bone humanity. Interstitial vignettes provide a thematic backbone to the experience, and each track complements and completes the previous to form a narrative whole: a sometimes visceral, sometimes nostalgic slice of Ace’s young life in Brownsville, Brooklyn.

Lost Luggage is Balance and the Traveling Sounds' second EP, releasing on July 17th. Standout track "Jump to It" combines smooth rhymes, amazing vocals and funky beats, all serving as an enticing preview of their upcoming album "Travel Guide Volume II". No word yet on when they'll be releasing their second album but in the mean time hit play this season with Lost Luggage.

Dumi RIGHT was introduced to audiences in the early 90's as a member of Zimbabwe Legit -- the pioneering crew widely regarded as the first African hip hop group to gain international recognition. He has a solid discography of album releases including the acclaimed Zimbabwe Legit - House of Stone, O.U.O - of unknown origin, Alternate Reality and a slew of guest appearances, compilations and mixtapes released worldwide. Dumi RIGHT's latest album, Connect The Dots, is his first solo project and features emcees from across Africa - including Ghana, Senegal, Uganda, Tanzania, South Africa, Nigeria, Botswana, and Zimbabwe. The album is a metaphor for unity across the continent; it connects each unique part of the continent through the collective creation of the hip hop record. Topics range from the pursuit of freedom across the globe to artistic integrity and independence. The album maintains the gritty, classic hip hop flavor that Dumi has exhibited in all his previous projects with thought provoking lyrics and poignant wordplay over a backdrop of rugged beats from some of the underground's finest producers. Подобно рок-музыкантам, чей талант от релиза к релизу только обрастает мастерством, гуру хип-хопа Large Professor и не думает терять форму с годами. Более 20 лет активного творчества, классический альбом с Main Source, 3 сольных релиза и ряд заметных гостевых продакшенов – такими были предпосылки перед "Professor @ Large". Не забудем приплюсовать сюда прошлогоднее коллабо с Neek The Exotic, альбом, справедливо названный "Still On The Hustle", показал, что если не считать поседевшей бороды, это всё тот же Large Pro.
Продюсер старой формации Large Professor гораздо больше времени посвящает изучению истоков и виниловым раскопкам, нежели наблюдению за современными тенденциями и выработке какого-либо нового звучания или, что уж там, стиля. И от того, к чему приведет археологическая работа Профессора, зависит то, насколько ожидающие его новых записей слушатели насладятся музыкой, потому что высокий уровень качества результатов его продюсерского труда по умолчанию является константой.
Не удивительно, что и в этот раз в шарманке LP нашлось несколько новых (что, разумеется, равносильно хорошо забытым старым) сэмплов, которые насытили альбом одновременно и свежестью, и ностальгией, романтикой прошлого. "Key To The City", трек с которого начинается пластинка – это классический Large Pro, безупречная композиция из нескольких фанк и джаз сэмплов, ловко выстроенных в логической последовательности, словно так оно и было с самого начала (то же самое можно сказать о любом из инструменталов "Professor @ Large"). Тут LP прибегает к довольно редкому приему, используя меняющуюся инструментальную схему в одном треке, быстрый бит то и дело берёт передышку в виде триумфальных аккордов.
Отдельные треки "Professor @ Large" обозначили творческие поиски его создателя. Пример тому почти шотландский мотив "UNOWHTMSAYN", или сэмпл рок-группы The Illusion в "Happy Days R Here", а участники новоиспеченного коллектива M.A.R.S. в последнем треке альбома и вовсе читают под готический бит с восточным акцентом.
Pro нашёл применение и одному из самых известных в хип-хопе сэмплов Sylvia Striplin - "You Can't Turn Me Away" (Naughty by Nature - "Hip Hop Hooray", Junior M.A.F.I.A. - "Get Money") в своём Light Years, что скорее стоит расценивать как очередной реверанс в сторону классики, нежели недостаток материала. Возможно с той же мотивацией, он снова взялся и за многострадальный альбом Боба Джеймса "Night on Bald Mountain" в песне "Straight From the Golden".
Одиночный гостевой продакшен от Marco Polo для трека "Professor @ Large" обедни не испортил, но и вряд ли имел шансы потягаться с Профессором на его собственном альбоме. Хочется видеть нечто большее за рекламой ветераном своего любимчика, например, поощрение всему молодому поколению битмейкеров от демократичного Large Pro.
Живая позитивная атмосфера альбома передаётся от музыки к лирике, в "Key To The City", "producer on the mic" без лишних усилий демонстрирует, что он ещё не забыл, что такое ирония и игра слов. Лишь Busta Rhymes, неожиданно выпорхнувший из своего нового гнездышка, сумел посягнуть на главенство Large Pro в треке "Straight From the Golden". Кратковременный возврат на землю одного из самых неординарных ЭмСи в истории хип-хопа приятен по сути и звучит как один из лучших куплетов альбома "Professor @ Large".
Large Professor сделал своё дело как опытный киллер, хладнокровно и качественно. Недостаток красок компенсирован безукоризненной продюсерской работой. "Key To The City" или "LP Surprise" можно предъявить как визитную карточку "Professor @ Large", но в целом альбом практически лишён выделяющихся песен, впрочем, и слабые или даже средние композиции тут, кажется, отсутствуют напрочь. Это не тот случай, когда после пары прослушиваний можно выбрать 2-4 трека и забыть про остальную часть альбома. Каждая из 15 песен "Professor @ Large" делает его лучше и каждый трек хорош в контексте альбома.

"The Plain Dealer" compromises of Hip Hop the way the Lordjazz intended, 12 tracks strong, the album features guest appearances from renowned artists including; Mr Funke and Doitall from Lords Of The Underground, J-Ro and Tash from Tha Alkaholiks, Sticky Fingaz from Onyx, The Cella Dwellas and Treach from Naughty By Nature.
DJ Lord Jazz describes his highly anticipated album as hard hitting drums, nice loops with dope verses and scratches.
Now residing in Paris, the Lord produced the entire album abroad which is dedicated and inspired by DJ Lord Jazz's good friend, Darnel Chase who was murdered in Newark New Jersey in 2008. The two established a record company called "Premium Records" along with Jazz's brother Eric Colston.
"Since then, I've been working on this project because it's not just for me I'm doing this for Chase and his family," says Lord Jazz.
His first release "Say yea" is a crowd pleaser, having already gaining air play by the legendary DJ Premier's radio show"Live from HeadQcourterz"on Hip Hop Nation/Sirius Satellite."This song is vintage Mr Funke,if you like his old high pitched style and flow your going to love this track"says Jazz.The track also has a remix by one of the most under rated Hip Hop producers,K-Def.
"These are some of my favorite MCs' and I was fortunate enough to get them on my album. I also have new mc's that need to be heard around the world like Aarophat, Senics Da Misfit, and Ike Turnah " says Jazz. Keeping the L.O.T.U.G spirit alive, Lord Jazz ensures he has carried his experiences and influences from the group onto the album.
"One thing that we always tried to do on our albums which Busta Rhymes said to us back in '93 to C.L.A.M.P ya sh**, that means C is for concept, L is Lyrics, A is for Attitude, M is for Music, and P is for Performance. To this day we abide by that because it makes so much sense," he says.
