The 2 members of the group became friends when the producer BSTFRND (Jefferson), began studies for college in Richmond, and Rob (Robalu) was his Resident Assistant. The pair quickly realized their mutual love for hip-hop, and music in general, which spawned a handful of songs, and an EP by 2013.
Following the EP, Rob focused on his Poetry career; making appearances on Verses and Flow on TVone, and having his poetry featured on the Button Poetry online channel. While, Jefferson worked on his music as a solo producer with the release of 2 full length albums, Hues (2014), and Haptic Tones (2015), and one EP, Outer Zeal (2015).
The team is back with their first proper, full-length, project, Incredible Heat Machines. Sit back, indulge in your favorite vices, and let the sun-charged sounds take you on an aural excursion.

Gathered Between is Dday One’s fifth studio album in ten years, a lost chapter from his discography unearthed through an exercise in memory.
The tracks on Gathered Between were originally recorded after Dday One’s second album, Heavy Migration. But a hard drive failure took the album away, leaving only a handful of tracks that were released on rare and now out-of-print compilations. In early 2015, while listening to a rough demo of the album, Dday decided to reconstruct Gathered Between using memory as his only guide.
Dday dug through his crates to relocated samples and, using classic samplers and various other technology, reprogrammed the album beat by beat like an audio archaeologist. As a result, Gathered Between expands the language of classic hip-hop production in the same spirit as the greats of the genre.
Gathered Between offers a captivating instrumental hip-hop journey across ten tracks. As with previous releases, the crackle of vinyl sits next to melancholic horn melodies and piano licks, fingered bass dances across breaks, and disembodied voices give the slightest hint of the author’s opinions. Built from hundreds of samples, the music is a tapestry of pasts on which the listener is invited to write their own memories and hopes for the future. Starting off with a bang, ‘One Another’, a tune of unification, brings to mind hints of classic Pete Rock production, the crunchy drums and bubbling stabs of ‘Alchemy Loop’ are reminiscent of golden era aesthetics but move beyond. The album is held together by the same attention to detail and intricate sample layering that has defined Dday One’s work to date.
Gathered Between was mastered by Finland’s Janne “Fanu” Hatula, a diverse producer and engineer who has worked with Bill Laswell, Damu The Fudgemunk, and Klute among others. The album’s cover features a photograph entitled ‘Between Worlds’ photographed by Melbourne’s Andrew Parmi. Displaying a bird flying between an older and modern build, it was chosen by Dday One to symbolize the combination of nature and architecture and to represent the album’s transitional nature, then lost and now found.

The Chicago-bred, LA-based artist's second sophomore LP on Mello Music Group is called Hella Personal Film Festival. A full-length collaboration with British producer, Paul White, Eagle artfully breaks down the banalities and perils of the modern condition. Known for his solo alchemy and collaborations with Danny Brown, Homeboy Sandman and Mos Def, White conjures a psychedelic strain of soul-funk, booming drums, and 21st century crate-digging in tropical attics of the imagination.
Recorded in London, Eagle's new album continues where his 2014 masterpiece, Dark Comedy left off. It's anxiety-riddled but whimsical, addicted to and scornful of social media, stuffed with old wrestling in-jokes and film snippets. Self-aware admissions blend into attacks on societal double standards.
These are tense anthems for the vulnerable, consecrations to black people with rich internal lives, agnostic prayers for those grappling with pain. They're emotional landmines leavened by the wry bleakness usually only found in great stand-up comedians. Eagle exists in the lineage of They Might Be Giants and Richard Pryor, Freestyle Fellowship and his longtime friend and collaborator, Hannibal Burress.
Within the first act, the plot becomes clear. See "Admitting the Endorphin," where Eagle raps, "I chase my poison tail and get so high that voices fail." These are the movies he'd make if he knew how to make movies. Surreal vignettes about waking up with burrito hangovers in hotels you don't recognize, wondering if you remembered to charge your phone. Aesop Rock and Hemlock Ernst (Sam Herring of Future Islands) pop up as fellow travelers.
No one is better than Eagle at capturing the nauseous disorientation of day-to-day life. The deluge of sports highlights, unread texts and Twitter notifications. The compulsive need to check your phone at red lights and pauses in conversation. But his incisiveness extends far beyond observational humor. "Smiling (Quirky Race Doc)" examines the slights and casual bigotry of daily interaction. "A Short About a Guy That Dies Every Night" is a morbid rumination on death.
These are the returns after long dark nights of the soul. When the noises are loud, the lights are off, and the armor is pierced. Short films that loop over and over again, as soon as you close your eyes.

"It's crazy to think that my equipment collection and beat making process started back in high school with just an 8 second Gemini sampler and a Sony Walkman. It was a super basic set up. Back then I used whatever I could get my hands on. Finding different samples, looping them up, running the layers back through the Walkman. Adding more layers and repeating that process until I had a beat. It worked.
My process is a lot different now but in some ways it's the same. I still do a lot of layering. I use a combination of hardware and software. Sometimes I start with a sample. Sometime I start with drums. It depends on my mood and the genre. Sometime I use a kit. Other times I will sample and layer drums, run them through another piece of equipment like the SP-12 or 404 to dirty them up, then dump them back into Ableton.
I really don't have a set way of doing things musically. I like to experiment with different technics and styles. I like my music to have a certain sound. Most of the time I let the process happen naturally."

Westside Gunn has emerged as one of New York's most promising up-and-coming emcees. His cinematic soundscapes and eye for street-level detail have earned him comparisons to certain Wu-Tang members, but his imagination is all his own.
